Koh Phi Phi Don & Phi Phi Leh BeachesThe longtail boats line up along the beaches of Phi Phi island ready to take any curious visitors out on a trip around the various islands. Adorned with garlands of flowers on the bow, these picturesque vessels are now a common sight in the glossy tourist magazines of the world. The fine white sand of the beach in the background to the picture offers just a glimpse of just how beautiful the beaches in this region actually are. Phi Phi has two famously photographed beaches, each on opposite sides of the Phi Phi Don island, and are known as Ao Loh Dalam on the north side of the sandbar and Ao Ton Sai on the south side. These are the curved spectacular beaches seen from the highest viewpoint of the island. Fringed with palms and plantation, it’s the ultimate tropical scene. Paradise indeed! Such is the quality of beach life on Phi Phi it would be difficult to suggest one over another. On the east coast of the island there are the beaches of Ao Phak Nam and Ao Ran Tee. Koh Phi Phi Don Beaches
At the very tip in the north of the island there area number of good quality resort hotels on Laem Tong but bear in mind this is a remote part of the island accessible only by a speedboat service from Tonsai .It is a great place for snorkeling with clear shallow waters up to the reef, where it the depth drops in a dramatic fashion. Destination Air have a service to Laem Tong directly from with a variable schedule. Their operations are very much weather dependent so contact them at www.destinationair.com for the latest times and prices. Easier to get to are the beaches running south from To Sai, the best being Long Beach at the southern end of the deep curving bay. Long beach can be reached by longtail boat in five minutes and has beachfront eating places. Seafood is very much part of the menus in Phi Phi which is hardly surprising. Koh Phi Phi Leh Beaches
On the smaller Phi Phi Ley island is The Beach. Made famous by the film made in 1999, this was seen as the ideal location for the story about the travelers finding isolation. The location is actually Maya Bay, and in the high season is besieged by day trip visitors who jump off their boats for an organised snorkeling session, before heading off for the main island and Ton Sai. Apart from the beaches close to Ton Sai there are only a few facilities, so it is useful to take water and maybe some food for the day. Vendors on the more populated beaches will come along selling prawns and anything from massage to sunglasses. Some of the beach areas have developed into bigger tourist venues but there are plenty of places to find some seclusion. |
