Koh Phi Phi Weather Guide

The low season on Phi Phi is not such a bad place to be. This is the period between April and October when the heavier rains arrive. It’s not that terrible really with sporadic heavy storms, which can be spectacular. The peak of the rainfall is in September, with higher than normal during the previous few months. The winds which come from the monsoon are strong but also come and go. Its often easy to know when a storm is about to break as the wind suddenly increases, the sky goes quite dark and its time to head for shelter.

The rain can be fairly heavy in these spectacular thunderstorms and lightening. It quite a sight to see, especially in the evening. In the daytime, a break in one on the many cafes or bars will provide some refuge. When the storm finishes, you can return to the days’ business, on the beach or around the island. In the high season, from December through to April, it is dry and warm with clear blue skies. The temperatures on Phi Phi vary little across the year, with only a 10 degree shift from the average of 78°F /24 °C. The island has some of the steadiest climates in Thailand.

In the high season Phi Phi does become quite busy with day trippers coming from , and lots of tourists escaping their own countries severe weather. But later in the day when the day visitors have returned to their base in the island returns to a more sedate atmosphere, with a pleasant cooler temperature.
